The 2008 Sports Executive Leadership Conference was once again held at the Broadmoor Resort at the base of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, CO. It was truly a spectacular event that brought together the best minds in the sports industry for a 3-day networking and "think tank" event.
2008 RECAPThe 2008 SELC conference featured the "Power of Experiences" in which the SELC was thrilled to welcome to the stage Craig Sager, TNT award-winning broadcaster, as the emcee for the event. The conference highlighted world-class speakers from various segments of industry including Lou Carbone, a leading expert in Experiential Economy, who focused on the experience of the customer in your business; Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, Co-Producers of the critically-acclaimed Planet Earth series, who led us through the amazing wildlife experience; Barry Asmus, Senior Economist for the National Center for Policy Analysis, who led a vibrant discussion on future trends in the U.S. economy; Lindsay Moran, former CIA agent and best-selling author, who discussed her life on the front lines; and, a panel discussion with U.S. Olympic athletes on their Olympic experience.
But, that's not all. The attendees participated in the USOC Fantasy Experience and the Porsche Driving Experience. With the USOC Fantasy Experience, was attendees were provided with a glimpse into the life of an Olympic athlete as they participated in a volleyball instructional camp with members of the women's U.S. Volleyball team, a shooting demonstration from USA Shooting, and even got to take a few laps on USA Cycling's intimidating Velodrome in a cycling competition. The Porsche Driving Experience allowed the attendees an opportunity to work their way through lengthy straight-aways and hairpin turns at top speeds of 75 miles per hour while piloting some of the fastest cars on the road. To add to the experience, each driver was allowed to take a ride through the course with a professional Porsche Driving Instructor. Each attendee was also given an opportunity to play 18-holes of world-class golf on the Broadmoor East Course, home to the 2008 U.S. Senior Open. These once-in-a-lifetime experiences elevated this year's SELC to the best event to date.
To cap off the 2008 conference, the attendees dined in style at the charity dinner and auction. In addition to the great food and drink, the SELC held its annual charity silent auction to raise money for the General Sports Foundation and the Suite Dream's Project, a charitable organization that rebuilds dream bedrooms for chronically-ill children. This year's auction was wildly successful and will help to brighten the life of a sick child. We thank all those that contributed items to the auction and those who were generous enough to bid on the items to aid in the on-going operations of the charity.
From everyone at the Sports Executive Leadership Conference, thank you for making this year's event great and we look forward to seeing you next year.
