In 2006, GENERALSPORTS VENUE™, an affiliate of General Sports and
Entertainment®, entered into a long-term agreement providing it with
the exclusive sales and marketing rights for all AstroTurf-branded products in
the American sports market.
At a special event at the ESPN Zone in New York City on December 12, 2006, GENERALSPORTS VENUE announced the re-launch of the iconic AstroTurf® brand. The event celebrated AstroTurf's 40-plus-year history as the originator of synthetic turf. The event introduced legendary quarterback Archie Manning as the spokesperson for AstroTurf, ushering in a new era for the brand. "AstroTurf is one of the most recognized brands in all of sports, and their new turf products are the best in the business," said Manning. "I can tell you from first-hand experience; this is not your father's AstroTurf."
Under the partnership with AstroTurf, GENERALSPORTS VENUE will continue to offer its own line of synthetic turf products together with cutting-edge AstroTurf products. GENERALSPORTS VENUE will offer game field systems for football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse and general use under the AstroTurf® GameDay Grass™ infilled synthetic turf product lines and the PureGrass® (no infill required) product lines, as well as offering AstroTurf 12™, the world's leading field hockey turf brand, and AstroTurf engineered conversion systems for indoor or outdoor facilities. GENERALSPORTS VENUE also will be offering AstroTurf's proprietary Root Zone® technology, a simulated thatch layer at the base of the tufted (or knitted) turf, replicating the stabilizing underlayer of root fibers in natural grass fields.
The partnership with the AstroTurf brand will mean a very busy 2007 for GENERALSPORTS VENUE. Over the past four years, the company's successes have included synthetic turf installations at high-profile institutions such as Michigan State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga and Florida State University.
